The Inside Story

The Inside Story

Life is getting a little busy here as I continue to spread the word of my new small business online store. As much as I used to love blogging and would love to journal my business as I go, I sometimes find that I just don't have the time or energy to put something comprehensible together. That said, it is my plan to prioritise it within my weekly schedule to post at least once per week, so here goes. :)

After a few weeks of figuring out what my workable space looks like, I have moved round more times than I care to admit. As a rightie I want to have the immediate items to the right of me for ease of the process. Now I think I have nailed it so let me share my starting point.

My office is what us Brits call a box room. It's approx 10' x 13' but we have a cupboard over the stairs that makes a great space for storage. So making this space work has been much trial and error. On the first corner of the room is my desk, I have made a wooden riser so I can house my speaker bar, computer box and label box and have my monitor at eye level. Next to that is a small acrylic drawer set where it holds my label printer, usb connector (hidden behind the screen) and odd stationery in the drawers along with my desk hoover, corner cutter and a couple of planners and my written inventory list folder.

On the wall to the left is my sticker units, an Ikea peg board for my pens, scissors etc. Above that is also a small acrylic drawer where I keep my flash drives, batteries and keyring accessories. The unit underneath is just for holding my sticker sheets, photo props, adhesives and some file trays for admin paperwork.

To the right is my cricut then we move to...

The stand holds the different papers I use, then I have my sublimation printer, my regular printer and my guillotine. What I didn't photo was what was next to it. (doh) I house my notebook sheets to be cut and my book binder. Under the unit is a small storage unit for jewellery making items, small postage items, another book binder and my current traditional bookmarks. Next to that is a 4 drawer unit for cables, tech accessories, sumblimation items and a misc drawer. You can just about see the heat press sitting on a colour drawer unit which houses my specialised papers such as transfer sheets, holographic sheets, etc.

You may notice I have one wall where I have begun to add stickers, these are ones that I have created and didn't quite make the sale so as oopsies, they now decorate my window wall and my desk!

This is just as you walk into my office (opposite the cupboard). The bookcase is not related to office or business, it's actually the only place I can put my folders for my writing career. My writing desk is currently in my living room so I didn't want to make too much colour happen in there as it really is supposed to be a relaxing space when work is over for the day. For now, though, the folders stay here. :)

For the purpose of posterity, I will share the very first items I made but ended up not putting them on my shop because I had that imposter syndrome for quite a while.

Traditional colour in bookmarks

A6 Notepads

This autumn and winter I will probably work on them and make them a little more appealing. But for a first timer, they're not too shabby I think! :)
